Every map layer, its real source, and its live coverage. Counts are queried from the database at page load — they are never hardcoded, so this page can’t drift from what the map actually holds. The rule: show what is measured, mark what is partial, and never present a snapshot or an inferred signal as ground truth.
Snapshot generated 2026-10-28 03:10 UTC · 231,719 total entities · 197 nations · latest event 2026-10-27 23:34 UTC

Nation choropleth + fixed facilities.| Layer | Source | Coverage | Refresh | Confidence | Notes |
|---|
| Nation boundaries | Natural Earth / geoBoundaries | 197 | Static | Measured | 197 sovereign + de-facto states rendered; ~195 is the practical denominator for “global”. |
| Choropleth metrics | World Bank, SIPRI, UN & others | 105 | Per-source | Partial | Distinct metrics scored. Coverage per metric varies — some are backfilled to all nations, others are seed-only. Each metric’s legend shows its own nation count; grey = no data. Hofstede 6-D cultural dimensions are catalogued but not loaded (licence pending). (105 of ~195 nations for a typical metric). |
| Tricellix indices (3) | Composite of open indicators, method composite_v1 | 3 | Weekly (Sat 02:30 UTC) | Inferred | Cyber readiness · Dependency risk · System health. Method: latest observation per nation; log transform for heavy-tailed ratios; winsorised min–max (5th–95th percentile) to 0–100; equal weights; arithmetic mean within pillars (≥ half the inputs), geometric mean across pillars for the two performance indices, arithmetic for the exposure index; ≥ 2 of 3 pillars; confidence high/medium/low by pillar and input completeness. Every value lists the input observations it was derived from. Not a validated model — a documented, reproducible convention. |
| Airports | OpenStreetMap / OurAirports | 5,278 | Periodic | Measured | Point locations from open geodata. |
| Ports | OpenStreetMap / WPI | 3,804 | Periodic | Measured | Maritime ports and terminals. |
| Power plants | Global Power Plant DB / OSM | 34,642 | Periodic | Partial | Large open catalogue; smaller/newer plants may be missing. Raw ingest — a curation pass is planned. |
| Dams | OpenStreetMap | 77,361 | Periodic | Partial | Raw OSM count is inflated (way + node duplicates); a dedup/curation pass is planned before this feeds analysis. |
| Embassies | OpenStreetMap | 16,926 | Periodic | Partial | Raw OSM count includes consulates and duplicates; curation planned. |
| Military bases | OpenStreetMap | 2,595 | Periodic | Partial | Open-source only. Military siting is self-censored worldwide — this is a floor, not a complete order of battle. |
| Spaceports / institutes / monuments / chokepoints | Curated + OSM | 157 | Curated | Measured | Small curated sets (spaceports, research institutes, monuments, maritime chokepoints). |

Resource nodes, ownership and agriculture.| Layer | Source | Coverage | Refresh | Confidence | Notes |
|---|
| All substrate entities | Composite (USGS, MSHA, GLEIF, SEC, OSM, FAOSTAT) | 230,439 | Periodic | Measured | Active entities after lifecycle filtering (merged/superseded/dissolved excluded). |
| Mineral / resource nodes | USGS MRDS + MSHA | 55,453 | Periodic | Partial | Deposits + refining nodes. Strong for US and major producers; thinner elsewhere. Development status is source-reported. |
| Extraction (mines + fields) | GEM + USGS/MSHA |
Cyberspace map
Internet infrastructure and routing.| Layer | Source | Coverage | Refresh | Confidence | Notes |
|---|
| Data centers | OpenStreetMap | 7,497 | Periodic | Measured | Physical DC locations; AI-specific sites tagged separately. |
| Colocation facilities | PeeringDB | 5,256 | Periodic | Measured | Interconnection facilities with tenant networks + IP space. Self-reported to PeeringDB. |
| Internet exchanges | PeeringDB | 1,267 | Periodic | Measured |
Geopolitics map
Military bases + live event signal.| Layer | Source | Coverage | Refresh | Confidence | Notes |
|---|
| Military bases | OpenStreetMap | 2,595 | Periodic | Partial | Same open-source layer as the Intel map — a floor, not a complete order of battle. |
| Event signal | GDELT 2.0 | 2,422,694 | Snapshot (~4h) | Snapshot | Geolocated events categorized from CAMEO codes with a Goldstein intensity. Reflects REPORTED MEDIA COVERAGE, not verified ground truth — media attention and reporting bias are baked in. Read as a pulse of where the world is looking. |
Known limits carried across the whole map: an intelligence map is asymptotic — no single pass makes it “complete”. It is data-bounded — military siting is self-censored, some supply routes are inferred, and a few feeds cost money (roughly 85–90% of the static map is reachable on open data). Snapshot layers (BGP, threat, satellites, events) are true only for the moment they were captured.
